Apple Trees

General Information

The apple tree (Malus domestica) is a deciduous fruit tree that reaches between 2 and 10 meters in height. It has a short trunk, a rounded crown, and oval leaves with serrated edges. It blooms in spring with highly fragrant white or pink flowers that attract pollinators. Its fruit, the apple, varies in color, size, and flavor depending on the variety. It prefers temperate climates, deep, well-drained soils, and requires a good number of chill hours for optimal production. It is widely cultivated for its nutritional value and versatility.

Main rootstocks

The vigor of this rootstock is valuable in sandy and dry soils, where it adapts very well. – It is a good alternative for replanting and for less vigorous varieties.

Tolerant to Phytophthora, with low incidence of suckers and excellent anchorage.

Dwarfing rootstock that induces earliness, producing large fruit. It adapts to different soil conditions; however, its use is not recommended in dry, light soils.

It has high tolerance to transplanting, some tolerance to waterlogging, and tolerance to Phytophthora. It has low tolerance to Agrobacterium and woolly aphids.

Very similar to M.9 Pajam2, but slightly less so.

It doesn’t have the same replanting tolerance, but it does have all the other characteristics of Pajam2.

Types of plants

Varieties developed on one- and two-year-old rootstocks. Large plants with a good number of early-flowering shoots, extensive root systems, and excellent storage capacity, ensuring the success of your planting.

Both products are delivered in July-August, in packages of 10 and 20 plants depending on the plant size; therefore, the customer receives packages according to size, resulting in a more uniform planting.

Varieties with two years of development, obtained by cutting them back to 1 m in height after the first year of growth. This results in an even more developed plant, with a very good size, branching, good root development, and excellent reserves, ensuring the success of its planting.

Univiveros® has established objective criteria to evaluate and guarantee the vigor and quality of plants in relation to their root size and development.

The root size is measured 5 cm above the rootstock-variety junction. This ensures greater uniformity in customer orders, delivering a homogeneous product that facilitates the cultural practices involved in establishing the orchard. Accordingly, the following root sizes are used:

CALIBRE MILIMETROS
S (Super) 19,1 mm y mayores
XL (Extra Large) 16,1 – 19,0 mm
L (Large) 12,1 – 16,0 mm
M (Medium) 10,1 – 12,0 mm

Traceability of Propagation Material:

A rigorous labeling and registration system is in place for all propagation material. This system uses coded information for each species, variety, and origin of every plant at all times.

Traceability in the Production Process:

In addition to carefully managing the sources of our propagation material, we maintain a rigorous labeling system that uses coded records of the varietal identity and origin of each propagated plant throughout the entire production process.

Freedom from Visible Pests and Diseases:

Univiveros® is a nursery officially registered with the SAG (Chilean Agricultural and Livestock Service). Therefore, it undergoes the corresponding inspections of soil, plants, and source material by the authorities throughout the entire plant production period, as stipulated by current regulations. This ensures that the plants are free from visible pests and diseases.
